Sun Pharma’s Dilip Shanghvi was felicitated with ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award. When Shanghvi received the award, he talked about how Sun Pharma began many years ago on a small level. He explained how the company has grown and changed during all this time, and he’s looking forward to making it even bigger by reaching more countries around the world.
I would like to express my gratitude to the moneycontrol editors and the jury for honoring me with this recognition. It is particularly fitting that we are celebrating family-run businesses, as they play a crucial role in driving entrepreneurship and employment in our country.
I am truly privileged to receive this recognition from Piyush, who has been a role model for me. His ability to work tirelessly for 18 hours a day and his knack for understanding complex issues across various industries, not just pharmaceuticals, never fails to amaze me. I have witnessed his personal relationships with everyone he interacts with, despite his demanding schedule and extensive travel commitments. He always finds time to offer guidance and advice to those who seek it.
Sun Pharma, which is now 40 years old, started with a few psychiatric products in 1983. Psychiatry was the chosen field because it was what we could afford at the time. To hire representatives, we needed cash flow and resources, which were limited back then. We began with just two representatives in Calcutta. Fortunately, the market for psychiatric, neurological, and cardiological products was growing in India at that time. This allowed us to expand rapidly. Our focus on investing in research and developing a global-scale, high-quality manufacturing infrastructure has been instrumental in our growth. Today, nearly two-thirds of our business comes from international markets, even though India remains a significant part of our operations. However, we anticipate that our international business will continue to grow and become an even larger part of our overall operations in the future.
I would like to dedicate this recognition to all my colleagues at Sun Pharma. It is their hard work and dedication that has helped shape the company into what it is today. I am grateful for their contributions.
